Techniques

Magic RingUsed to start the yellow center for a tight, closed base.
Petals Worked in Rows/ChainsEach petal is built by working stitches up one side of a foundation chain and back down the other, creating a pointed leaf-like shape with graduated stitch heights (sc at tip, hdc/dc in middle) for a rounded, domed petal.
LayeringTwo separate layers of petals are crocheted flat, then stacked and sewn together offset, with the center sewn on top to create dimension.
French KnotsUsed for the dotted ring of dark pink and brown "seed" texture around the yellow center.
Surface EmbroideryFrench knots are worked directly through the yellow center's outer edge.

A. Center (Yellow)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Rnd 2: 6 inc (12)

Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)

Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)

Rnd 5: 24 sc, working in BLO (24)

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

This creates a slightly domed yellow disc that will sit at the center of the flower.

B. Back Layer Petals (Light Pink) – make 6

Worked individually, then joined at the base, or crocheted as one continuous piece around a center ring (see Assembly for joining method).

For each petal:

Ch 8: this forms the foundation for one petal, approx. 2.5 in / 6.5 cm long.

Row 1: Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, 3 dc in last ch (tip made), rotate and work back down the other side of the foundation chain: dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, sc in next 2 ch, sl st in first st to close (16 sts around petal)

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Repeat 6 times total for the back layer petals. Each petal should measure approximately 2.5 in (6.5 cm) long and taper to a rounded point at the tip and a narrow base.

C. Front Layer Petals (Light Pink) – make 6

Worked identically to the back layer petals but slightly shorter for visual layering.

Ch 7: approx. 2 in / 5 cm long

Row 1: Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, 3 dc in last ch (tip made), rotate and work back down the other side: hdc in next 2 ch, sc in next 2 ch, sl st in first st to close (14 sts around petal)

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Repeat 6 times total for the front layer petals.

Shaping Notes

The graduated stitch heights (sc at the base tapering to dc at the widest point, back to sc near the tip) create the characteristic pointed, slightly cupped petal shape seen in the reference.

The front layer petals are worked one row shorter than the back layer to sit slightly recessed when layered, producing the visible depth between the two rows of petals.

The yellow center is worked in BLO on the final round to leave a subtle ridge, helping it sit slightly proud of the petals when sewn on top.

Color Changes

Center: entirely Yellow.

Both petal layers: entirely Light Pink; no color changes within petals.

French knot ring: alternating Dark Pink and Brown, worked directly onto the yellow center's outer edge after assembly (see Facial/Small Details).

Facial Features and Small Details (Center Embellishment)

French Knot Ring: Using Dark Pink embroidery-weight yarn or a doubled strand of yarn, work a ring of French knots around the outer edge of the yellow center at the boundary between the yellow and the petals, spacing knots evenly.
Alternating Colors: Alternate colors around the ring: Dark Pink, Brown, Dark Pink, Brown, continuing around for approximately 14-16 knots total.
Raised Texture: Wrap the yarn around the needle 2-3 times per knot for a raised, textured seed-like bump, matching the puffy texture visible in the reference.
Placement: Knots should sit right at the yellow/pink boundary, partially overlapping onto the base of the inner petals.

Stuffing

This flower is a flat appliqué-style piece and is not stuffed. However:

Lightly steam-block each petal after crocheting, pinning it into a slightly cupped, curved shape while damp to encourage the dimensional, cupped petal look shown in the reference.

Allow petals to dry fully in the shaped position before assembly.

Crochet flower assembly detail

Assembly

Join Back Layer: Arrange the 6 back-layer petals in a circle, with the base (foundation chain edge) of each petal facing inward. Whip stitch the base edges of adjacent petals together, side by side, to form a continuous ring/rosette shape, leaving a small central opening.
Join Front Layer: Arrange the 6 front-layer petals into a second, smaller circle in the same manner.
Layer Front onto Back: Center the front-layer ring on top of the back-layer ring, rotating it so the front petals sit in the gaps between the back petals (offset by half a petal-width), creating the alternating layered look. Pin in place.
Sew Layers Together: Using the long tails, sew through the base of the front layer and into the center of the back layer to secure both rings together at the middle.
Attach Center: Place the yellow center piece (Part A) on top, covering the middle opening where all petal bases meet. Sew around the outer edge of the yellow center to the front-layer petal bases, using small, evenly spaced stitches.
Embroider French Knots: Complete the dark pink and brown French knot ring around the yellow center's edge as described above, anchoring the center piece further and adding the finishing detail.

Finishing

Weave in all yarn tails through the back of the petals and center, trimming close to the fabric.

Block the finished flower flat or gently domed, pinning petal tips outward to encourage an even, symmetrical spread.

Trim any stray fibers from petal edges for a clean, tidy finish.

If using as a brooch or appliqué, attach a pin backing or felt circle to the back center now.

Steam lightly to set the shape; avoid high heat if using acrylic yarn.

Final Notes

This pattern recreates a two-layered pink daisy flower with 12 total pointed petals arranged in an offset double ring, a raised yellow center, and a decorative ring of dark pink and brown French knots. Adjust the chain length and stitch count per petal slightly if using a different yarn weight to match the approximate 4.5 in finished diameter.
